Vacuum storage bags are one of those ideas that seem fantastic until you buy some and they turn out to be not so great after all. The problem is that eventually air will get back into the bags so you have to keep resealing them. And, no matter what some may claim, there isn’t a vacuum storage bag available that doesn’t suffer this problem.
However, like all things in life, some brands are much better than others. Below is a selection of the best and, to be brutally honest, if you’re not prepared to pay a bit of premium then forget it. Cheap alternatives are just that and you’ll always regret buying them.
Premium Space Saver Jumbo Vacuum Storage Bags – these bags have a double seal zip closure and a triple seal valve help prevent air finding its way back in. They claim to be the best bags you can buy, which of course they would, but judging by the number of positive reviews they might be right! There are 6 bags to a pack, each bag measuring 100 x 80 cm.
You also get a hand pump thrown in, which is ideal for travelling, assuming you don’t usually take a vacuum cleaner on holiday with you? £19.99 from amazon.co.uk
RayGar Vacuum Storage Bags – for storing bedding, duvets and the like these extra large bags measuring 100 x 80 cm are just the ticket. They do say the closure mechanism is a bit fiddly but, over than that, mostly positive reviews again. £9.99 from amazon.co.uk
Viridescent Vacuum Storage Bags – 3 large bags measuring 80 x 60 cm and 2 extra large at 100 x 80 cm. They are a bit thicker than most other brands so will take a bit more punishment and are ideal for camping. £24.99 from amazon.co.uk
Neusu Extra Large Vacuum Storage Bags – these bags are the same thickness (110 microns) and have plenty of good reviews. This pack contains 5 bags measuring 100 x 70 cm. £28.99 from amazon.co.uk
