When you’re running out of hanging space you’ll soon discover there is a limit to how many items of clothing you can hang on the back of a door. And then you have just three options:
- Have a clear out, which can be painful.
- Buy another wardrobe, which may be expensive, even if you have the room?
- Or, buy a hanging rail, which is the simplest and cheapest option.
The cheapest option is not always the best and you may find some of the lower priced rails on the market can be poor quality. If you’re willing to stretch your budget a little there are some decent quality rails available though. Here’s a few examples:
H & L Russel Garment Rail – this 4ft rail is chrome plated which may be important if it’s going to be on open display? H & L Russel have been making this kind of stuff for over 120 years. It’s a quality hanging rail with a solid construction. Dimensions 122 cm long x 50 cm wide x 157 cm high. Cost £59.99 from amazon.co.uk
Heavy Duty 6ft Hanging Rail – this wide rail looks the business and is so strong a grown man can hang from it. The reviews for this product are encouraging and I like the black colour. Another bonus is the parts click together without the need for screws or bolts. Not such a big deal when you’re assembling a rail for the first time but if you ever want to dismantle it you’ll appreciate the benefit. The cost is also quite reasonable at £37.99 from amazon.co.uk
Heavy Duty Double Rail – if you want to get the most out of the available space then this double rail will be the ideal solution. Again, it’s a heavy duty 6 ft rail but with the bonus of a centre rail which is height adjustable – ideal for shirts and trousers, perhaps? It’s another rail with great reviews although the cost is a bit higher at £59.50 from amazon.co.uk
John Lewis Clothes Rail – a standard black rail with good reviews. Quite sturdy when assembled and will hold up to 40Kg. Dimensions: H157 x W122 x D50cm. £49 from johnlewis.com
John Lewis Matt White Clothes Rail – the same rail but finished in matt white, so it doesn’t clash with your bedroom decor. £49 from johnlewis.com
Chrome Collapsible Clothes Rail – this collapsible rail is a good idea if you just need some temporary clothes storage. When not needed store it away in a small space. The rail is also extendable. Dimensions: H145 x W128 x D55cm. £95 from johnlewis.com
Heavy Duty Clothes Rail With Shoe Rack Shelf And Hat Rack – this rail has the added benefits of a hat shelf, for folded clothes & boxes, plus a wire shoe rack in the base. 6 feet long x 5 feet high. £45 from amazon.co.uk
6 Ft Heavy Duty Telescopic Clothes Rail – a chrome finish steel rail with space for up to 45 hangers. Extends sideways as well as up. Complete with extra hanging bars at each side. L105 – 176 × W50 × H137 – 187 cm. £79.99 from amazon.co.uk
